As rail markets grow globally, there are increasing opportunities for UK expertise to contribute to international projects. This online session explores the realities of working overseas — the opportunities, challenges, and pathways to work overseas.
With new opportunities particularly within the infrastructure, transport, and rail sectors increasingly emerging beyond the UK. As we recognise that the volume of work in the UK is shrinking and that many future opportunities lie overseas, this session will focus on understanding the international landscape: exploring potential career pathways, what it’s like to work on global projects, and how to navigate opportunities abroad. Whether you’re exploring a secondment, relocation, or simply want to understand the opportunities available overseas, this session will provide practical insights into the global landscape.

Fiona Ross
Fiona Ross is an exceptionally experienced public and private sector Chair and Non-Executive Director.
In November 2023, Fiona was appointed by the Irish Minister of Finance to serve on the National Treasury Management Agency. At the NTMA Fiona Chairs the NTMA Investment Committee which has responsibility for almost ten billion euro invested through the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund. Fiona also holds a number of Irish Government and UK Government board appointments including Chair of the National Paediatric Hospital Development Board and Chair of the Metrolink Programme Steering Committee. In the UK Fiona was appointed to Non-Executive Director roles at The Scottish Government, Network Rail and the Northern Ireland Office.
Fiona began her career as a stockbroker in the City of London and spent 25 years working in all areas within Capital Markets in Dublin, London, Eastern Europe, and the United States. Fiona is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin, Queen’s University Belfast and the Institute of Art and Design (IADT) where in 2017 she completed a MSc in Cyber Psychology. In 2012 Fiona was awarded a fellowship in Governance at George Washington University in the United States.
Amy Morley
Programme Management Senior Director, AECOM
Based in Toronto, Amy leads delivery partner services on a major rail programme in Canada and works globally supporting large, complex infrastructure projects. She brings extensive UK experience from HS2, the Cabinet Office and the BBC, alongside her current international leadership role. Amy is also Chair of the Association for Project Management UK, with a strong focus on professional development, digital transformation and project leadership.
Sybil Tan
Group Director, Strategic Engagement, Building and Construction Authority Singapore
Sybil brings over twenty years of engineering industry experience across Singapore and the UK, combined with a decade in management consulting. A Chartered Civil Engineer and Certified Project Manager, her career spans rail, buildings, utilities and asset management. Sybil offers a unique perspective on best practice project delivery, investment strategy and the future of the built environment in Singapore and the wider region.
Nicolas Petrovic
Nicolas has been active in the railway and industrial sectors for many years, including as CEO of Eurostar, CEO of Siemens in France, Belgium and Africa, CEO of Etihad Rail Mobility in the UAE and currently CEO of Brightline Holdings in the US. He also currently serves as Chairman of the Independent Advisory Board for the West Coast Partnership in the UK and as a Board Member of Arlanda Express in Sweden.
